Vietnam officially became member of the Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations

On 1 December 2006, the Vietnamese Government completed all accession procedures and officially became Contracting Party to the Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations.

According to the Announcement of the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Rome Convention officially came into force in Vietnam on 1 March 2007. Total number of Contracting Parties to the Rome Convention has been 86 up to now.

As Contracting Party to the Rome Convention, Vietnam has the obligation to protect the rights of performers, producers of phonograms and broadcasting organizations of other Contracting Parties, also protection for the rights of Vietnamese performers, producers of phonograms and broadcasting organizations will be secured by other Contracting Parties of the Convention in their countries.

Becoming Party to the Rome Convention is the next step of Vietnam in implementing commitments in the US – Vietnam Trade Agreement and the TRIPS Agreement.
