|
On 6 April 2005, the Vietnamese Government deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms against Unauthorized Duplication of Their Phonograms (Geneva Convention). According to the Notification No. 83 of the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Geneva Convention officially took effect in Vietnam on 6 July 2005. Up to 1 May 2005, 74 States have been official parties to the Geneva Convention. Since 6 July 2005, Vietnam have been obliged to protect phonograms producers who are nationals of other Contracting States against the making of duplicates without the consent of the producers; against the importation of such duplicates, provided that such duplication or importation is for the purpose of distribution to the public; and against the distribution of such duplicates to the public. This is a new progress of Vietnam in the enforcement of the US-Vietnam Trade Agreement obligations and in its effort to join the WTO |
